Yes, finally a proper review again 😀 It was my birthday a short time ago and I got some new DVDs ready to watch again 😉

Paul  (2011)

Storyline: When the two english sci-fi fans Clive and Graeme travel through America after visiting a comic-con, they find more than just sights on their way: Alien Paul needs their help to find his way back to his UFO after sixty years. (Sorry for the crap summary but I didn’t know what to write)

Actors: Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, Kristen Wiig

My review: This movie is definitely NOT for people who are easily offended if someone says something bad about Christians. On IMDb, everything’s full of Christians complaining that this film was very offensive to them. I am not very religious. So, to all you guys who felt insulted (I’m not trying to start a fight or something, just bringing up the facts here…): There were a total of two extreme Christians and they were in the same family. You can NOT deny, that there aren’t any people like that. And as it was a freaking COMEDY, the characters were supposed to be over the top!!! Were science-fiction lovers insulted because they were portrayed as nerds? Were policemen/agents/whatever insulted because they were shown to be pretty brainless? No! Thank you.
After I had gotten used to the rather frequent swearing, I enjoyed it a lot. There were a lot of references to other sci-fi movies I didn’t get because I haven’t watched many, but that wasn’t a problem in the slightest, I just mentally skipped the things I didn’t understand 😉 The characters actually weren’t that likeable, but they were okay and they were funny enough, so you simply didn’t HAVE to like them.
So, very enjoyable comedy, not to be taken too seriously and probably not something for the whole family…

Something I love about this film: The drawing of Paul. Can Simon Pegg actually draw that well?!

My stars:

Humor: 9/10

Love: 6/10

Action: 7/10

In All: 8.5/10

Maaaaan I should really stop using block letters that much… (And …)

  1. I love Simon Pegg! He’s extremy funny. And I saw Seth Rogan is also in it? Does he have a big role? Man, aliens? Sounds hilarious… 🙂

  2. Hey,

Good question about Simon Pegg’s drawing skills. However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised. Creativity is usually an anomalous streak — often quite a broad streak that encompasses other skills, even when not obviously similar — so I think there’s a very good chance he did create the drawing himself.

So, I need to see this film…I’ve seen bits of it on and off for a while now, so it SEEMS like I have seen the film — like when you walk past a fence and look through the slats and see the illusion of a full image on the other side, I suppose — but seeing the scenes in chronological order would be preferable!

    Good review.
